How Often Do You Shop for Makeup?

I’m so curious to find out how often other makeup lovers shop for makeup. Do you shop every week? Once a month? Whenever something needs to be replaced?

I have some friends that only shop when they need to. And, I have others that shop as often as they can and really don’t need a reason. Plus, there are those that are in MAC or Sephora every time a new product is released. Being a mom of 2 boys, having a full-time job, a blog, and an Etsy store to maintain, I fall somewhere in the middle of all this.

 

How Often Do I Shop For Makeup?

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to just go out and shop for makeup whenever I want to.  I do, however, make sure that I always have my favorites in stock at home. The worst thing in the makeup world for me is to wake up and realize that one of my foundations is empty. I use a few different ones, and depending on my destination and how I’m feeling, I like to switch it up.

I’m also pretty spoiled. My mom works at a huge department store and she showers me with gifts. I recently sat down with my mom and she pulled out these bags of products and samples that she got from work. She gave me the cutest Clinique makeup bags and I filled them with various skincare and makeup products. On top of that, she’s usually at work when new products come out and has the access to get them before they are sold out. I am usually at work and unable to get to the store.  

When MAC released their MAC Snow Ball Holiday 2017 Collection, she bought one of course. She handed it to me and told me to pick the colors I liked and give the rest back to her. It’s more than a half a year later and I still have the whole collection. I promise I’m going to give it back to you, mom!

How Often I Shop For Higher-End Makeup vs Drugstore Makeup

I shop for drugstore makeup a lot more often than I do higher-end makeup. Since I run into CVS so much, I end up browsing the makeup section each time I go. I end up finding new lipstick colors or mascara. I tend to purchase mid to high-end foundation and eyeshadow. However, I always keep Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse on hand. It’s actually one of my favorite products. This foundation is really light and airy. 

As soon as I see the jar beginning to get low, I’ll run to grab a new one. This is great for everyday wear. It’s quick and easy to apply. Plus it matches my skin tone pretty well. 

As much as I love the higher-end foundations, I save those for special occasions. 

I wear eyeshadow on a daily basis. I don’t purchase drugstore eyeshadow too often just because I worry about the pigmentation and how long the eyeshadow will last throughout the day. If I read good reviews on a product, then I will try it out. I love to play with color and I would like the color to still be there at the end of the day. If I decide to wear bright blue eyeshadow, I want passersby to be able to tell. I don’t want my eyeshadow to look faint or “barely there”. 

I purchase palettes more often than individual colors. If I see a must-have, then I will get it. I have my days where I just want to keep it neutral and sometimes I’m having a full-on glitter-filled day. So, it’s important to have a variety of eyeshadow present. 

I tend to shop for eye products more than anything. Now that I’ve found some great foundations for my skin, I shop more for other products. I only replenish my foundation when necessary. I love trying a different mascara every so often and eyeliner pencils. Most of the time, I will use a brown or jet-black eyeliner pencil. I’ve recently been experimenting with different color pencils. Blue has to be one of my favorites now. I like to try a new color once a month or so. 

I’d like to think that I shop for makeup a few times a month. Some months I shop more and some I shop less. I used to work with someone who would go on a shopping spree at Sephora each time she had a little extra money on her paycheck.
